The House in Linden Park is a single-level dwelling designed to support a couple to age in place, with a clear focus on accessibility, long-term functionality and environmental performance. The design is structured around a central courtyard, allowing the primary living spaces to open to the north and draw in winter sun while maintaining privacy and a strong connection to the landscape.

 

Passive solar design principles inform the building form, material selection and detailing. Thermal mass, high-performance glazing, effective shading and cross-ventilation reduce reliance on mechanical heating and cooling and contribute to stable internal temperatures year-round.

 

Internally, cork flooring and plywood-lined ceilings provide a warm, low-maintenance finish with good acoustic and thermal qualities. The kitchen is designed for efficient day-to-day use and is supported by dedicated wine storage, reflecting the clients’ brief for a highly functional and practical living environment. The result is a compact, efficient and robust home that is carefully planned for longevity, comfort and reduced energy use.
